Chapter 4 - Introduction to Algebra
To demonstrate your understanding of concepts through clear articulation on your approach to solve the problem.

1. This is an individual task. You are to complete the viva voce on your own.
2. This is a reinforcement of similar questions based on the topic covered in class.
3. It will help you to seek and articulate your understanding of concepts as you attempted to explain your approach and solution to the problem.
4. You should not take more than 1 hour to complete the entire task.

  • Identify the question, work out the solution on the paper/ white board.
  • Plan your explanation before you do the video recording.
  • You may get another person to assist you when recording the viva voce.
Submission of Work
1. Use any application/platform that is suitable to record your viva voce
  • e.g. PhotoBooth, QuickTime Player, YouTube, Facebook)
  • Remember to keep the file size small.
2.  Post your video clip in the Maths Blog.
  • Embed the video clip in the post.
  • Subject Heading: Viva Voce Practice 2: Algebra - Q20 (indicate the question number that you choose to do)
  • Label: Algebra, Viva Voce
3. Things to look out for when recording
  • Background noise should be kept to the minimal
  • Check the background "scene" - it should be neat if it is going to be captured in the video
  • Your voice must be clear. The visual is meant to help you to illustrate your explanation. We are listening to key words you use in your explanation and how you articulate your understanding and rationale behind the steps.
  • Make sure what is capture in the screen, e.g. working that is written on the paper, is clear and 'big' (enough to read)

  • 13 May 2012 (Sunday) 2359h - Those who failed to submit the work will stay back to complete it during supervised study.

- Only partially able to explain the mathematically concepts involved
- Does not use appropriate mathematical terminology
 0 Lack of Concept Understanding
- Unable to explain the mathematical concept involved
- Misuses mathematical terminology
